Sam is a Cleveland native, Registered Dietitian, Orangetheory Fitness Coach, Exercise-Physiologist and dog mom who believes that when we heal our relationships with food and exercise we can take on the world! Sam, a diet-culture drop out and women who suffered from Orthorexia (over exercising, under-eating, and obsession with being healthy) herself understands what it is like to suffer from food guilt, obsessive counting, and obsessive thoughts about food and exercise. Sam’s experience with an eating disorder fueled her desire to become a Registered Dietitian, so that she could help others break free of dieting, obsessive food thoughts, and over-exercising. Sam has over 10 years of experience working in the fitness field as well, and believes that strength training and exercise can be forms of self-care and empowerment. Sam believes that “working out” comes in many shapes and sizes, and teaches us valuable lessons that far exceed how heavy we can lift. Sam believes that through strength training and other forms of exercise, we can learn to do hard things, build resiliency, and even emotional strength and well-being. Sam’s goal is to empower you to feel strong in your body through movement that you enjoy, and eating the foods that bring you happiness. Sam brings her expertise in nutrition, intuitive eating, and joyful movement to the Intuitive Strength Academy and can’t wait to work alongside you during this journey!
Erica grew up in Massachusetts but has lived in Northern Virginia for nearly 10 years. Erica is a mom to 3 daughters. After her first daughter was born in 2011 she experienced post partum depression that lead to pressure to "bounce back" to her pre baby body. Erica suffered from anorexia as a result and believes diet culture played a large role in why she felt the need to change her body in the first place. Erica became a Personal Trainer to help others learn to feel strong and empowered for what their bodies could do rather than how they look. Erica believes exercise is a powerful tool in connecting the mind, body and soul. There are many different ways to exercise and all are valuable, Erica teaches weightlifting as a way to gain confidence and she believes that everyone can benefit from some form of strength training. Erica is also a behavior change specialist. She enjoys teaching others to use imagery and other tools to overcome obstacles around exercise. As a busy mother of 3, Erica is an expert at designing exercise programs that easily fit into your life. She believes that stress management is a key component to well being and never wants finding time to exercise to be a reason to stress. Erica's goal is help you feel comfortable in your body as it is. She is excited to encourage you along this path!
